Podčetrtek Castle atop of an 1165 feet/355 meters high hill is one of the beautiful landmarks the city of Podčetrtek has to offer. Sadly this magnificent Renaissance styled Castle is slowly disappearing. Built in the 13. century and renovated in the 18.century was heavily damaged in an earthquake in 1974. Since then the interior walls, floors, and furniture slowly descended.
Though the Castle is not open to the public, you can peek into the inner courtyard and walk around. Because the severe damage we do not advise you wander around the inner rooms of the Castle.
You can reach the Castle Podčetrtek from the City center, follow the Trška road (Trška cesta), then turn west on to a forest road/gravel called Road to the Castle (Cesta na Grad). It’s 1,24 miles/2 kilometers away from city center, meaning the walk will take you about 25 minutes.
